Thank you for considering the National Museum of the American Indian for your offer to sell a collection of The Returned Katchinas for $1,244,000. We have a review process at the Museum that helps us determine how objects that are offered fit the Museum’s Scope of Collections as well as any legal or financial considerations for long-term preservation. The decision to acquire objects rests with the Director based on recommendations made by our Curatorial Council.
As it appears you have provided sufficient information for the Curatorial Council to consider your offer, your offer has been added to the agenda for the Council’s next meeting on March 25th. Once the Council makes their recommendations, their meeting information is provided to the Director, who then makes a decision. Because of the process involved it can take several weeks after the meeting before we hear back from the Director’s office, but I will be sure to share that decision with you as soon as we hear back.
